On November 12, 1993, Royce Gracie introduced the world to the effectiveness of his father’s Jiu-Jitsu, submitting each of his opponents in dominant fashion in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Today, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is the fastest growing martial art in the world. A lot of that has to do with what makes BJJ so effective: efficiency and practicality. Ultimately, this means that literally anyone can learn it. Many other martial arts require a certain degree of flexibility, strength, or a general physical fitness level before being able to perform the majority of even the foundational techniques. In BJJ, it’s quite the opposite. In fact, Grandmaster Hélio Gracie, the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, was himself a rather sickly child growing up and small in stature throughout his adulthood. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu accomplishes this by employing positional dominance and leverage to defeat physical attributes like size and strength. Of course, those same physical attributes can multiply the effectiveness of Jiu-Jitsu, but they are not necessary to gain proficiency in the art.

If you have never tried a martial art before, Jiu-Jitsu is for you. If you have been training in martial arts your entire life, Jiu-Jitsu is for you. If you want to be confident that you can protect yourself in any situation, Jiu-Jitsu is for you. If you are between the ages of 3 and 93, Jiu-Jitsu is for you. Come to Beacon MMA and see why there isn’t a single professional Mixed Martial Artist alive who isn’t learning Jiu-Jitsu right now. But more importantly, come meet the person you will transform into after just a couple of classes in our spacious, clean, and state-of-the-art training facility.
